In this course, Denmark – from a linguistic and cultural perspective, you will get a thorough introduction to Denmark and Danish. The course will in able you not only to understand Danish but also to speak and write it to a certain degree. Of course, you will quickly discover that the majority of the Danes do speak English, but by learning the language you will discover new aspects of Denmark and its culture – and moreover be able to understand your (new) Danish friends in a better way.

The emphasis of the course will be the spoken language (mainly pronunciation and verbal exercises) and the class follows the principle: communication and interaction come before grammar and syntacs. To put it shortly, we will be talking a lot! We are also going to read anthropological texts about the Danes – for instance concerning the concept “hygge” which is such a large part of Danish culture and also of Krogerup! In other words, this will not be your normal, language school class seeing that we will look at the relation between language, individuals and society in order for you to learn and understand Danish and the Danes better.
